From the spark of inspiration to commissioning a mural is simple. If you're thinking you would like a handpainted mural in your home or place of business, drop me a line or give me a call. I am able to help you work within your space, budget and time frame to make your vision become a reality.
1. Initial Conversation
Our initial conversation will give us a chance to say hello while allowing me to get an idea of the general scope of your project. If you have images of the space or creative inspiration, it would be helpful if you would send it over beforehand. Once we've communicated and you'd like to move forward, it may be necessary for me to visit the site. Since I am available for mural jobs beyond the Gulf Coast region, a facetime or Skype session may take the place of the initial onsite appointment. Contact me by phone or email, I look forward to speaking with you.
2. Pricing
There are several factors that influence the price of a handpainted mural. Please see my mural pricing page for more information. Some murals are priced by the square foot and others are priced per motif.
3. Design Deposit & Contract
When you're ready to proceed with the project, I will provide a contract that will need to be signed; then we will continue to the Design Phase. A design deposit will be required at this time. The amount of the design deposit varies based on the size of the project, but typically the deposit will run $300-$1000. Once I receive the deposit and the signed contract I will schedule the project and begin work on the designs for your space.
4. The Design Phase
Next, we establish a direction, a "feel" or "mood" of the work and begin mapping out composition while taking into consideration the chosen space and the desired results. This session is often achieved collaboratively by brainstorming and by sharing visual ideas and images that may inspire the artwork.
Following our initial design consultation, depending on the project requirements, I will create a design which will give the project a general direction which will be in the form of a quick sketch or if required, a detailed rendition. Please note that each mural project is unique and site-specific, as the process moves forward, there are often points where elements of the design will be tweaked. Murals often tend to evolve along the way; it's what makes the resulting work become personal and authentic.
5. Mural Deposit
To confirm the scheduling dates, I require a 50% deposit two weeks before the scheduled start date.
6. Painting the Mural
I generally paint for 6-7 hours a day, starting early in the day, usually by 9:30 am. Each project is unique and painting times will be scheduled to accommodate the situation. As the process unfolds, I like to keep in touch to ensure certain aspects are on target and meet expectations. Slight adjustments in the overall design are often necessary however major change orders will warrant a price adjustment.
Once I feel the project is near completion, we will review the work together; any final requests will be discussed then adjustments, if necessary will take place. After this point, the mural is complete.
